Here's a shocker. Construction on a tower section of San Fransisco's Bay Bridge have been delayed due to suspicion that Chinese-made steel components might be defective. Needless to say this has raised more than a few concerns in the earthquake-prone bay area, and these concerns are only being amplified by the fact that this is yet another faulty-Chinese-product story, which the media seems to enjoy so much.
It'll be interesting to see how much press this story gets in the Bay Area, as those in charge of the construction project say that necessary fixes have already been made. If the steel components had been made in, oh say, Ecuatorial Guinea instead of China, this story might have already lost its legs by now.
In any case, lets hope that the construction company is right on this one, because you never want to be sloppy building any kind of structure in an area prone to seismic activity. Tragically, China has learned that lesson all too well.
